RWD Double Page Spread Article Analysis

This magazine article is about an upcoming artist called Anna Calvi and it is going through how her songs were inspired and why she took the musical route and not followed her passion in art. Anna Calvi is an Urban artist which relates to RWD's target audience and music genre.

The layout of this article is a double page spread. The first whole page is dedicated to the main image of the singer, Anna Calvi. As she is not as well known yet and has only recently started off her career in music, by putting her image as the whole page will let the readers understand more of who they will be reading about, and also they will be able to recognise her in the future. Even though this image captures the readers attention, by having her on the left side of the image this will stop the reader from loosing concentration when reading the article. The headline is situated on the second page and is the biggest typeface on the whole article, grabbing the readers attention. Also its play on words, 'anna-mated', also not only informs the reader of the artists name straight away, but also the word 'animated' is associated with music and as this magazine is a hybrid, the readers straight away know they are reading a magazine article.

There is a strap line directly underneath the masthead; it has no background which does not make it more focused from the article, just black text. However there is a big white space in between the strap line and the article which separates them both from each other. This in a way ensures the strap line is read, as this is meant to entice the reader as it is a brief introduction of what the article is about.

The way this article is written does not fit the target audience, ages 15-24, as there is no colloquial language making it more formal as its typeface is informal by the use of sans-serif. In addition, gutters are used in the article which gives a more professional effect. However the topic itself compares to the younger generation as they are still deciding on their career choice and what they want to do in life. To keep the reader wanting to read the whole article, a lot of rhetorical questions were asked and then answered. By using this effective technique, it makes the reader want to know more about the artist and want to find out the answers.

The main and only image of Anna Calvi is indirect as she is looking away. How she is sitting in this cropped image gives the effect she is focusing on what she wants and getting further in her career. The main colour used in the image is red, she is wearing red and the reflection in the mirror is all red. This compares to the colour used in the masthead as the name 'Anna' in 'Anna-mated' is red.

Overall I think the article is very neat and well organised. The typeface used is neat and not messy and the conventional like columns make it look very formal.
