RWD Contents Page Analysis

The magazine presentation again relates to the front cover with its simplicity and use of colours. Again black and white are the only colours used. Each feature comes straight after one another and looks like a paragraph, this gives the effect that the magazine has a lot for the reader to read about and is worth purchasing. This can relate to target audience as their audience is not too young, readers may want to read more than see more images. The most important cover lines are separate from the 'regulars' as these are maybe the best parts of the magazine. This makes a potential reader think the magazine is offering even more for you to read as they have sectioned these cover lines off. The sub-headings are a narrative device used to guide the reader. In addition, the typeface of the features on the contents page are the same as the cover lines on the front cover. The contents page is very unconventional as the masthead is not at the top of the page, it is on the bottom half.
When I first look at this contents page it does not actually look like a lot of effort has been put in, even though it is still clear and neat, because it is so simple it makes it look cheaper. However, the little it has on it can be aimed at its target audience, which is 15-24 year olds mainly. Teenagers are not as fussy and do not care as much for detail. Also teenagers will mainly flick through pages and just look at the images. That could be why the four images are are the top of the page, making them the first thing you see. Also most magazines will include an editorial near the front or on the contents pages, whereas RWD contrasts with this and does not include one anywhere in this issue.
The four images are all of female artists, this could limit your target audience as females may appeal to it more because they like listening to female singers. However it can also appeal to a male audience because of their sex appeal. Three of the images employ an indirect mode of address, making the artist look more sexy and feminine, also their make-up and hair increases their sex appeal. These images can help to orientate the reader by them being able to pick an article that interests them an be able to look for it quickly because they know to find it under the 'Features' heading.
